GISELA IN HER BATHTUB AND CITY WORKERS IN LOVE
PAUL DAVENPORT THEATRE
MARCH 14 & 15, 2014
Spoofs can be lots of fun, even quite memorable and sometimes momentous. Such was the case last night as UWOpera’s productions of Gisela in Her Bathtub and City Workers in Love offered up a smorgasbord of trenchant opera satire. Suds and sweat were de rigueur as love Icelandic-style faced off against Canadian concupiscence, eh?
Librettist Neil Weisensel and composer Michael Cavanagh examine the human and fictional response to love and its new and old world manifestations respectively, showing clearly that times haven’t really changed all that much except for time and space.
